Internal Safety Contactor
The built-in safety contactor, rated at 150A, protects the lithium-ion battery from overcurrent conditions. The safety contactor’s function is to interrupt the electrical circuit when a current exceeds its rated capacity. It prevents excessive current flows that could lead to overheating or other safety hazards. It’s a crucial component to ensure the safe operation of the battery. This type of protection is essential for the safe and reliable operation of lithium battery systems, especially in applications where high currents are involved, such as industrial equipment, or renewable energy systems.
Built-in BMS
The internal BMS of the SmartConnect ensures that the batteries are never overcharged or undercharged. Furthermore it will always keep the battery within the operating window including temperature and current control.
Bi-Stable Contactor
The bi-stable contactor combines maximum safety with ultra low standby consumption. This is thanks to the latching relay technology inside. When fully charged the standby-time will be more than 10 years. To minimize risks and maximize safe operation, no mosfets are integrated in this battery. A bi-stable contactor is safer compared to a mosfet, which can conduct in case of a short circuit. When starting up one or more SmartConnect batteries, the safety contactor of each battery automatically closes. The built-in pre-charge circuit prevents welding and sparks during the start-up. Besides, it ensures that the contactor switches softly, which increases longevity. Moreover, the contactor opens in case a critical parameter exceeds the limit.
SmartLink Connect
The SmartLink Connect is the external battery management system. It is the central unit which controls all connected components. This includes 3rd party chargers, MG energy monitor and inverters. Furthermore, it monitors and tracks all parameters to provide insight into the status and daily energy consumption. It gathers and combines all battery and communication data in the MG battery system. All data is transmitted over CAN-Bus to make it available for third party devices. The SmartLink Connect detects the state of the system, including warnings and errors, and intervenes when needed.

Compatibility
Data Access
What makes the SmartConnect unique is that it operates with any charger, inverter and combi in the market. The vast range of compatibility makes this battery the ultimate battery for system integration for new-builds and all your refit projects. You can choose to integrate the SmartConnect batteries in two ways: analog and digital.
Analog
As long as the charger and inverter can be remotely enabled and disabled, it is possible to control them with the Allow to Charge (ATC) and Allow to Discharge (ATD) contacts. To do so, easily use the Allow to Charge contact for the charger, and Allow to Discharge contact for the inverter. These two contacts (ATC and ATD) will automatically turn the charger and/or inverter on and off.
Digital
A slightly more sophisticated way is to digitally control the charger and inverter (or combi). The DVCC compatibility is a nice example of how the CAN-Bus is integrated via the NMEA2000 protocol. Digital control is often not necessary for simple installations, for which analog control is sufficient.
