Congratulations to MODX Catamarans on winning the Multihull 2025 prize for the groundbreaking MODX 70 catamaran in the Multiyacht category. This revolutionary 70-foot 100% electric catamaran sets a new standard in sustainable yachting by combining wind propulsion with electric motors, hydrogeneration, 250 kWh battery bank and 70 m² of solar panels. Its innovative design, including bio-sourced materials and advanced energy management enable zero CO2 emissions, perfectly embodies the future of clean, quiet, and smart sailing.
MG Energy Systems is honored to support this vision and the marine industry’s transition to sustainable energy with our advanced, high-end robust LiFePO4 energy storage solutions, which aligns perfectly with the MODX 70’s vision of eco-friendly propulsion.
The MODX 70 is equipped with:
- 32 pieces LFP 304 batteries with a total capacity of 250 kWh
The LiFePO4 batteries are divided over 2 battery banks of 124.8 kWh each, for both port and starboard)
The batteries are connected in a series-parallel configuration
The system voltage of the battery bank is 48 Vdc - In total four pieces Master LV 24/48Vdc with built-in 1000A safety contactors
(two on starboard and two on port side) - Two pieces SmartLink MX
(one on starboard and one on port side)
The SmartLink MX is configured in Combined Mode.
This setup offers two advantages:
The SmartLink MX device manages the load sharing for the two Masters on each side. This means that a total of 2000 Amps at 48 Vdc is available per hull, and 4000 A at 48 Vdc in total for the MOD X 70 catamara.
2. Parallel Redundant Battery System functionality
Both 125 kWh MG Battery Banks are connected to the ENGIRO 48V Electric Shaft Drives.
Here’s to a future of sustainable yachting powered by innovation and clean energy!
Together, we are driving the future of sustainable marine mobility, setting new standards for the next generation of electric yachts.
